International Conference on One Health Perspectives in Global Plant Protection Research (OHPGPR 2025)
The Centre for Plant Protection Studies (CPPS), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), inaugurated the International Conference on “One Health Perspectives in Global Plant Protection Research (OHPGPR-2025)” to provide a global platform for sharing innovations in sustainable plant protection. The conference brings together scientists, academicians, industry experts, policymakers, and students to deliberate on emerging challenges and solutions in crop health under changing climatic and ecological conditions. The inaugural function commenced with prayer and lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by Dr. M. Murugan, Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Entomology. An overview of the conference was presented by Dr. M. Shanthi, Director, CPPS. The function was presided over by Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, who highlighted the university’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing complex agricultural problems.
The conference was inaugurated by Shri Samuel Praveen Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, who delivered the keynote address. Special addresses by Dr. Sonai Rajan and Dr. V. V. Ramamurthy, President, Entomological Society of India, stressed the adoption of the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of plant, animal, human, and environmental health. The program includes keynote lectures, lead talks, technical sessions, and poster presentations on climate change and plant health, emerging pests and diseases, plant–microbe interactions, and digital plant protection. The conference is attended by over 500 delegates from India and abroad. Conference publications, a mobile app, and an exhibition on new plant protection products were released during the inaugural session. About 40 retired plant protection scientists were honored, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. K. Angappan, marking the successful commencement of OHPGPR-2025.
Importantly, the Madras Agricultural Students’ Union (MASU) was a proud sponsor of the conference and extended significant monetary support to ensure its successful conduct. MASU’s contribution played a vital role in strengthening the event’s outreach, scientific value, and overall impact.
This international gathering served as a major platform to reinforce collaborations, inspire innovation, and contribute to a more resilient future for global agriculture.
